la Rate Street - la Rate Street - Sabrina Inderchit
la Rate Street - Croner of La Rate & Church Streets - Sophie Delsanti

In 1830 there was still a hous raised on a gantry above the street.

In the North of the street, there was in the XVIII century an oil mill which belongs in 1791 to François Mourre a master in surgery. The mill was called ” Moulin de la rate”.
The origin of the name still uncertain :
– the sign of the mill could representative a rat, a mouse or a bat ?
– The nickname of the owner was “Rato penate” which means in provencal a devout person
– Or it was name like that because of the job of the owner who was a surgeon.
